Proximity Flying is an advanced discipline in Wingsuit BASE Jumping. Athletes will plan a line which allows them to pass close to fixed objects or the ground at high speed. This is in contrast to Wingsuit BASE, the focus of which is to create separation from fixed objects and exit points in order to open a parachute in a hazard-free space.
By flying close to the ground and walls, the risk of injury is considerably increased and margins for error are reduced exponentially. By choosing the wrong line, miscalculating margins or failing to fly with the required efficiency this can result in serious injury or death. This is on top of the risks already associated with Wingsuit BASE such as slipping at exit point, failure to inflate wings, unstable exit, pilot error, suit malfunction and opening malfunctions.
